‘For the many ship delivery* voyages that we undertake, we have to provide our ship delivery crew with nautical books and charts. Legislation prescribes that these books are up to date at all times and, therefore, when an edition expires, it must be replaced. We don’t scrap the expired versions but hand them over to the faculty for Maritime & Technology at the STC Group here in Rotterdam. I even handed over the nautical books to my former thesis supervisor, Mrs Valentijn!’, says Thies Kegge, Superintendent at TOS.’
Kegge: ‘They can use these expired versions for educational purposes and basically learn how to use them for looking up information. The stack of books includes books with radio signals, SOLAS instructions, pilot services information, just to name a few. We hope that the STC Group is happy to have them and will use them to educate many more future seafarers!’
