Ship delivery: Crossing the North Atlantic

The crew is prepared for bad weather crossing the North Atlantic. Everything is securely fastened for a rough sea. But the voyage goes above expectations. It is very smooth. The good weather starts as soon as they pass the Greek islands.

SHIP DELIVERY NORTH ATLANTIC: 7,800 MILES TO ECUADOR

In mid-December 2020, I embark on a voyage as First Officer to deliver the SAAM Tarqui. After reflagging and the usual preparations, we are ready to sail. From the home port in Turkey, we leave for a voyage of 7,800 miles to Ecuador. We have no bad weather at all, all the way there. The good weather starts as soon as we pass the Greek islands and set our course west at the island of Elafonisos. We have lovely weather all the way to Gibraltar. December can see WESTERLY winds of 7 or even 8 Beaufort around Tunisia. But not during our voyage. We celebrate New Year’s Eve on the North Atlantic. After leaving Gibraltar, we stop at Las Palmas. From Las Palmas, we set sail for Willemstad.

SHIP DELIVERY: GREAT TEAM

It really is a fabulous crossing. During the crossing we repaint much of the ship and get it shipshape. From Willemstad we head to Panama, going through the Panama Canal which is fantastic. Really wonderful to see. The teamwork on board is excellent. It is really easy to work with Marvis and chef Erfison from Indonesia. And with Captain Freek and Chief Engineer Dennis, we are an active and motivated team. We arrive in the new home port on 24 January 2021, an experience richer. I have enjoyed working in this great team! Now I am at home and have built a mini gym. After all, you have to do something in lockdown in the Netherlands.

We found an article on the RIVIERA website about the SAAM Tarqui that mentions our Sales Manager Rolf Kievits. The article states ‘TOS Ship Delivery is sailing SAAM Tarqui from Turkey to Ecuador. TOS Sales Manager Rolf Kievits said on 6 January 2021, this tug was halfway on this voyage’. Click to read the story
