How do I get a job offshore? Where do I start, What shall I do?
These are probably the most frequently asked questions at our reception, on our social media platforms and at career events. Nowadays the Offshore Industry is booming. Safety standards and safety training requirements are rising as well. The demand is growing and more and more onshore professionals and seafarers want to join the offshore industry.
But how do you start?
The process of starting offshore depends on your previous background-education, occupational skills, experience, training and certification.
1) Are you a hands-on worker onshore?
For some offshore positions like electrician, mechanic and welder it is very important to have similar work experience onshore and in combination with some specific offshore certificates.
- 1-2 years’ experience in the same position onshore
- Medical certificate

2) Do you have a degree at a Marine College?
When you have a degree at a Marine College you automatically obtain your CoC (Certificate of Competency) and valid STCW’95 documents. This is a great advantage when joining the offshore industry.
The minimum requirements you still need are:
- Medical certificate
It is an advantage when you are in the possession of specific certifications:
- Offshore First Aid
- Confined Spaces
- Working at Height
