A ship delivery? Rather an unusual service!
It is stated on the website: ‘Relocation of your seagoing equipment worldwide? TOS is a professional and reliable partner for ship deliveries.’ But why do shipping companies use the service of TOS rather than organising it themselves?
‘A ship delivery is not just a relocation. Organising the project crew, making a voyage, bunkering, anti-piracy plan if needed, registration of the vessel and a daily report.. to name a few services… is our core business at the Division Ship Management. A shipping company is focussed on their core business: Operations. Sending their own personnel on a ship delivery trip for two months has quite an impact on the operations. TOS organises the delivery in a professional and above all most cost efficient way’, says Rolf Kievits.

What to expect?
Clients are enthusiastic about the transparent and open communication of TOS. Ship delivery is part of their services since the early beginning of TOS. This service is based on craftsmanship, creativity and knowing what you’re doing – from minute to minute. Inspecting a vessel, arranging the registration with flag or conducting ISM or MLC audits requires quite a few different levels of knowledge and close teamwork between office, superintendents and masters. With the ship delivery service, TOS takes all the administrational and operational worries away from the client.
How Rolf convinced Østensjø Rederi
Rolf is always in for a good story. And the story on the question ‘Which ship delivery job has stuck to you?’ came without any hesitation: Lomax for Østensjø Rederi. ‘We were introduced by Sanmar (Yard in Turkey) but they told us that Østensjø Rederi always took care of their own ship deliveries. Reason: a general preference to do it in-house, and having the opportunity to combine a relocation with a towing job. I offered a ship delivery service under full TOS Management and with an experienced towing crew and Østensjø Rederi excepted the offer. One day before the Lomax left the port of Tuzla, Turkey, there was a change of plan and route. TOS was prepared! The vessel Lomax picked up a tow in the Ukraine: the new build casco X-BOW vessel Blue Guardian from the company Ulstein. The casco was delivered to a ship yard in Ulsteinvik. All contingencies were taken care of and the client was very happy’, stated Kievits.
Kenneth Walland, COO at Østensjø Rederi
‘TOS provided us the professional and flexible support to bring our new Lomax home, including the picking up of a last-minute tow en-route. It was a pleasure working with TOS: their approach is professional and their communication clear and to the point.’
Why ship deliveries services will last
Looking at the future of their ship delivery service Rolf has no worries. ‘Off course every year will be different: 2012 was an excellent year while 2013 showed some reluctance. For 2014 the numbers of deliveries – both new buildings as existing tonnage – are promising already. Clients are globalising their services as well as looking for the best price/quality ratio for building new vessels. The world has become their playground. And we will take care of the most efficient way to deliver the vessel at her new homeport’, says Kievits.
