HITT selected to supply Vessel Traffic System for Noordzeekanaal
wednesday 3 Feb 2010
HITT has been notified by the Netherlands Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management (RWS) that they intend to award HITT with an order for the Design, delivery, testing and commissioning of a vessel traffic guidance and control system on the Noordzeekanaal (North Sea Canal) and surrounding waterways, as well as the maintenance of the entire system for a period of 10 years. RWS guarantees that the provisional award of contract will be finalized within 15 days (Alcatel-decree).
The system, which will be realized in 18 months, is required to accommodate the anticipated growth of maritime traffic whilst securing safe transit. The system makes investments in infrastructural changes unnecessary while enabling the Port of Amsterdam to realize its growth and innovation ambitions. The order is worth EUR 17 million.
The order includes the construction and installation of 26 radar posts, a closed circuit television (CCTV) system and other detection, presentation and communication systems for navigation guidance as well as the design and installation of two modern traffic control centers. HITT will also train the traffic controllers and carry out maintenance of the entire system for a period of ten years.
The system replaces the current systems delivered by HITT years ago in IJmuiden and the Port of Amsterdam and will, in the new situation, also provide radar and CCTV coverage of the North Sea Canal. The system will significantly contribute to the increase of safety and efficiency on the water.
